February saw Ashley and Jette Baker getting stuck in to their new project – St James’s Apartments in the middle of Bath. Externally the Bath Tap pub as was, still looks the same but we have taken out 7 skip loads of rubbish and old building materials. We had one whole load of metal which we have recycled and a similar amount of wood which was also recycled. Some of the wood has had the nails and screws removed and we have re-used it building stud work and as battens for new wall linings.

The electricians and plumbers have spent the last 4 week stripping out all the old circuits and pipes as we are completely renewing everything. Building regulations have improved , so an upgrade was required, but we want to provide a high quality flat with first class facilities, so everything will be new.

We want to be environmentally friendly so we are installing insulation that is sympathetic to an old georgian building. The Georgian windows will be refurbished and draft proofed, but we cannot double glaze them due to the listed building status and we are waiting to hear from the planning office whether secondary glazing will be allowed. Here’s a sneak of the new copper bath – mostly still under wraps -but a sign of the exciting features to come in the new “St James’s Apartments”

At Ashley Villa, Adriana and Elias the new Managers have settled in well and are already providing a first class service to our guests as the many very positive trip advisor reviews and other web reviews will prove. They are getting to know Bath very quickly and have visited many of the Bath Attractions including the Thermae Spa. A couple of the bedrooms have had a fresh lick of paint to freshen them up, and we have ordered 3 new single beds for the single room and a twin room. Our lounge is also getting some new sofas to replace the tub chairs providing more seating and we hope a cosy feel.

We are looking forward to the Bath Half Marathon this weekend and Jette is supporting the  “Great Comic Relief Bake off” by selling cakes and drinks from the Ashley Villa car park to the many people who will be watching the race. Adriana has volunteered to make some Romanian buns and some of Jette’s friend are also brining along cakes, brownies and biscuits to sell. There is a band that plays opposite Ashley Villa for the duration of the Race so we can expect a great atmosphere and all the money taken will go to a good cause. We will let you know how it went in next months blog so keep in touch!
